Indonesia Water Coalition - Driving Action Together for Water Security in Indonesia
On Friday, 29th January 2021 the Indonesia Water Coalition, a multi stakeholder partnership of leading public, private and other actors with the common objective to actively support the civil society and government in achieving water security and sustainability of the water resources was officially launched through a virtual charter signing event. Attended by founding members from Yayasan Konservasi Alam Nusantara , Yayasan Aliansi Wali Sumber Daya Air Indonesia, PT Coca-Cola Indonesia, Global Water Partnership Southeast Asia, PT L'Oréal Indonesia, PT Multi Bintang Indonesia, PT Nestlé Indonesia, PT. Tirta Investama (Danone Indonesia), and PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk.
The signing marks the commitment of the members to works towards water security and sustainable water resources management through collective action in the basin level.
As AWS Indonesia, we are especially welcoming all the AWS members in this Coalition and look forward to support all companies on their trajectory towards good water stewardship and AWS Standard certification.
Joint action between major water users, government and communities at basin level can support impact at scale on good water stewardship. Single site or single stakeholder actions, although an important first step, are not sufficient to reach that scale nor impacts. There is a growing recognition on the need for joint action on water as practices and compliance to standards on water remain low, and the challenges too vast be to tackle by one stakeholder only.
Leading companies are realizing that in order to sustain their operations, to become a responsible water manager and to increase their reputation, they need to take action on water.
These so-called first movers often have to invest substantial resources and time to implement sustainable water management practices, as for example access to data and tools for informed decision making are lacking. Why not work together and share resources, capacity and knowledge?
Collaborating with all parties, we are committed to having a positive impact on water and maintaining the balance of nature,
Karyanto Wibowo, Director of Sustainable Development for Danone Indonesia.
Nurdiana Darus, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk. conveyed,

There are three focus areas in this commitment, developing biodegradable product formulations, implementing 'Water Stewardship Program' around Unilever plants in 100 countries, contributing to transformative change to build water management resilience, PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk look forward to collaborate synergistically to bring benefits to the people and our nation.
